TOPIC: LOVE CONQUERS ALL (1)
Jesus left Judea and departed again to Galilee. But He needed to go through Samaria.
This short passage is one of the most curious and historical in the Bible. If you check the ancient maps of the area, Jesus did not need to go through Samaria to get to Galilee; it was a longer route. So why does the Bible tell us the Lord NEEDED to go through Samaria, and a longer route?
Another reason Jesus didn’t even need to go through a Samaritan territory to get to Galilee was that Jews and Samaritans were not friendly; indeed at this point, they had been serious enemies for thousands of years. Why? The Samaritan tribe evolved when Jews decided to marry non-Jewish tribes, contrary to God’s instructions that Jews should not intermarry other tribes. The children and people produced from these relationships became the Samaritans; half Jews and half Samaritans, and unacceptable to Jews because they were seen as foreigners because they were not pure bred Jews.
And so historically, Jews discriminated against Samaritans and never accepted them as relatives, in spite of the partly Jewish connection. We will resume the message tomorrow by God’s grace.
